THIS EXHIBIT HAS CLOSED.
2017 Canadian Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada,
from October 19, 2017 to March 18, 2018
This was a quick visit but there were some real stand-outs: the very creative seal QR code which links to a YouTube story, the artistic combination of a photograph with a sculptured outline and an art installation of a set with a video and a walk-through corner store with some interesting labels on the merchandise.
I thought that there was a recurring theme through much of this exhibit: it was not all paintings or all photography as art installations. For example, there was an definite mixing of photography and sculpture, sculptures/sets with videos, and even geometrics and letters went from the wall to the floor. It was a welcome foray from the classic pure painting, or pure sculpture. I noticed too that there was also a theme of social change and social angst throughout.
Check it out!
